5 月 26 日消息，土星最具标志性的特征莫过于土星环，而根据相关发表的 3 项研究，基于美国宇航局卡西尼（Cassini）任务收集的数据，搭建相关模型，表明土星环在几亿年后将会消失。
几亿年对于人类的生命周期太长，在我们的有生之年注定无法看到这样的天文现象，但是从宇宙时间尺度上来说，几亿年并不是太长的时间。
在 5 月 12 日发表在《Science Advances》、5 月 15 日发表在《Icarus》的论文中都证明了这个观点，认为土星环会在几亿年后消失。
土星环主要由数以亿计的冰和岩石碎片组成的，被称为“星际尘埃带”。而土星正在“吃掉”环绕运行的土星环，其吸力正在将这些颗粒吸入上层大气，最终会完全进入土星。
